Tung Ting tea is named after the mountainous Taiwanese region where it grows. Oolong tea is a part fermented tea, with the strength of a black tea but the aromatic flavour of a green, and Tung Ting is one of the finest. These teas sell in Taiwan for hundreds of dollars - slightly more pricey than your average cuppa, but worth every penny.

Louise the tea taster says

how does it taste?

This tea will deliver the strength of a black tea, with the aromatic, flowery flavours of a green tea.

good if you're feeling

A little blue. No, really. This is yoga for the mind, without the embarrassing leotard or spine-cracking back bends. Oolong, like green tea, is reputed to keep you skinny and young. Let’s hope it’s true.

How we like it

Drink Pure. Simply pure.

Just cover one tea temple with water just off the boil and infuse for 3 minutes. Remove temple and top-up glass with iced water.

Brew Time

  • tea temple - 1 per person. Infuse in boiling water. Brew for 3+ minutes.
  • loose tea - 2 rounded teaspoonfuls per person. Brew for 3+ minutes.

Whole leaves take longer to brew, but the little wait is definitely worth it.

Delicate and delicious

“Have just received my first order - speedy. I only placed it yesterday morning! This tea is really delicious and has a gorgeous delicate scent. There are few things that can turn me from my constitutional morning coffee - this and the peppermint tea have!”

Absolutely fantastic!

“I actually bought this teapigs tea in a cafe in Birmingham after giving it a try, and it was money well spent. The tea is delicious, though difficult to describe. Much milder than black tea, but with a good distinctive flavour, though I'm not sure what. The smell is as relaxing as a good chamomile tea, but the effects are much more relaxing.

In short, this tea is worth a try.”

Oolong blue tea

“I bought this as a pack of 50g with the infusing wheel after sampling my friends tea temples. I really love this tea, it's very refreshing and has a very light taste, much nicer than green tea, and I love that too! It feels like such a treat and really picks you up if your feeling tired and moody. I also purchased the set of three oriental teas, and I can't wait to try the jasmine and white tip tea too!”

I love this one

“refreshing and energising, great for that mid afternoon slump really brings you round and back up to speed.”

Very nice!

“I bought the little tin of 3 temples as I wasnt sure I'd like it but I've now ordered the box of 15! It's a really light, refreshing tea! Very much recommended! I gave my manager at work a temple to try and she's now going to be ordering some herself!”

“This tea is so yummy and relaxing. I'm totally addicted to it! Only orderd the sample tin which I used up within one day, so I need to order some more.

I'm not a green tea drinker, so wasn't sure if it would be similar and I wouldn't like it, but i needn't of worried. So don't be put off if you normally only drink bog standard black tea like me! I'm converted!

Would also like to say Teapigs' delivery was super swift. I ordered Thursday afternoon and received my order Saturday morning. Impressive!”

“As a lover of green teas and black teas, (no milk not even in custard) a mix no way!!

Saw the range of teas for sale at Watergate Deli Chester, read the "menu" well, risked a pack of temples, just tried it at home well, gob smacked!!!! literally hit with flavours I did not think possible. The joy and delight only matched by the fact I have found a stockist 5 miles away. Thanks Teapigs”

Surprisingly delicious

“I was so unsure of this tea when buying the testers - keep you young and skinny (LOL) and a cross between black and green? Any other tea I've had that's supposed to be beneficiary weight-loss wise (obvs not any Teapigs produce) has been totally rank and not worth the pain, but this little treat is marvellous. Really nice cup of tea with loads of benefits too.”

Like green tea only better

“I ordered this as a normal english breakfast tea with milk drinker so i was a bit nervous about trying something without milk and flavoured but this is amazing, it tastes great lots of flavours and has an amazing taste wish i had ordered more”

A proper cuppa with benefits!

“I have found this tea to be one of my Tea Pig favourites, having given up my coffee this tea seems to to fill the gap and I find it goes perfect with a slice of cake or bit of chocolate.”

Lovely tea

“Really delicate, fresh tasting tea with a little bit of smokiness. You only need a tiny bit for a single cup as the leaves really expand when you pour in the water! One of my new favourites!”

Lovely, refreshing

* * * * * by • 15th December 2010

“I was pleasantly surprised with this tea, i'm not a fan of green tea, I find it a struggle to drink but this was lovely. Drank it straight out of the cup and it has a much more subtle flavour. Very drinkable! It would not be my everyday choice but a refreshing treat now and again definitely.”

Never I thought I'd drink tea with a funny name! Love it!

* * * * * by Michelle Jenkins • 19th April 2012

“I'm a standard coffee and tea drink with milk and none of that funny named tea. Or should I say I was, I wanted to cut down on my coffee and milk in take and Tung ting oolong tea is fab and has made cutting down sooo easy. I love it, no milk needed, just enjoy! Give it a go. From a recent convert to teapigs!”

Mild & yummy!

“A mild, pleasant tea. Very nice!”

Ordering more!

“I got a sample box including this tea and 2 little bags are just not enough! As with the other reviews it is hard to describe but its distinctive and yummy and is my favourite from the selection I tried

I'd definitely recommend it...unless there is a shortage then I'd say leave it for me!”

“I used to drink oolong tea in when I lived in Japan but couldn't find a supplier that made it as well. I bought the tea pigs version and it took me straight back there. It's a really wonderful tea that I'd happily drink every day!”

Quite simply stunning

“This tea is fantastic. It's the first Teapigs tea that I've tried but it is excellent. I was drawn in by the evocative description on the packaging and was not disappointed. It has a much more interesting flavour than green tea but still delicate enough to be drunk without milk etc. Highly recommended!”

“Very lovely and mild, my favorit!”

* * * * * by Carol • 16th February 2012

“I have to confess that I was a bit sceptical about trying this tea after I gave the bag a wee sniff... (quite a funky smell!!)

However, I was completely sold from the first gulp! So light, refreshing and tasty- definitely a new favourite! Much lighter than a black but with more warmth and depth of flavour than a green, I can't wait til my next order arrives!! Thanks Teapigs!”

* * * * * by • 7th May 2009

“I bought this loose leaf tea and absolutely loved it. It is really easy drinking, and milder yet slightly more complex than green tea. The best thing about it is you feel great after having a cup as it's so good for you. It's a real treat, I highly recommend it.”

Best of Teapigs

* * * * * by Eve Chirdkiatisak • 21st November 2011

“I have tried a lot of teas from teapigs. I must say this is my most most favorite. I put all of my Teapigs collection at work. I found myself, on Sunday night, looking forward to Monday morning to this cuppa blue Oolong tea. It is simply the best.”

Gorgeously Refreshing Delicate Tea

* * * * * by • 24th June 2008

“This tea is totally gorgeous. I've never had "blue" tea before now (infact i didn't drink tea at all until i found Teapigs - now it's all I drink!)

The flavour is very light and delicate - almost flowery but not in an overpowering / perfumy way. Its really nice when you want a refreshing cuppa but don't necessarily want something with a strong flavour.

Definately worth a try!”

A delightful light tea

* * * * * by • 16th January 2010

“Oolong tea was my introduction to Teapigs. My daughter bought me a pack for Christmas as I had mentioned that I would like to give them a try. She chose this one for me. The first thing I noticed was the gorgeous, aromatic fragrance coming from the tea as it brewed. It reminded me of Jasmine tea, a delicate aroma but delightful. The tea itself has a light flavour and is quite refreshing and I always feel relaxed after drinking it. After a day at work, this is the tea I look forward to having when I get home. I am working my way through the different teas but for me, Oolong will be the one I shall always have plenty of next to my kettle. Lovely!”

Blue is the new green..

* * * * * by • 11th December 2006

“Maybe a strange name (aren't they all!!) however this tea is a fantastic alternative to traditional green tea that I find can be a bit overpowering and 'fishy'. This tea is much more pleaseant even when allowed to brew to a good strengh.”

“Tung Ting Blue

Gorgeously light and refreshing. Not as dry as green tea and not as sweet as a fruit tea, perfect!

My new favourite!”

Very refreshing

“Lovely. This has a very refreshing, delicate taste and is not as strong as green tea. It's ideal for mid-morning when you want something light to freshen you up a bit.”

Blue Tea

Brilliant Blue

* * * * - by • 22nd May 2007

“Refrreshing and really individual taste - has all of the refreshing kick of a brilliant black tea but without the weightiness. It's light and invigorating like a great green tea but without the tarty aftertase. It's like the best of both worlds!”

* * * * - by • 8th March 2008

“Both my partner and i tried this, he was indifferent, and i found it pleasant. If you like the White tea, you'll probably enjoy this. I found it had grassy notes and a stronger flavour to the white, packed a bit more of a punch. I'd certainly have it agian.”

Not my Cup of Tea

* * * - - by • 26th October 2007

“I've never tried blue tea before so was looking forward to trying this one! It's a very savoury tasting tea and ideal to have mid-morning when you feel like a snack. It's not really my kind of tea but with a spoonful of sweetener it's quite drinkable. I'm not a convert and I think I'll be sticking to my cups of chocolate flake tea!”
