Call us soppy romantics, but we like this story. A young man and a beautiful young woman from a tea plantation were in love, but the local tyrant seized her as his concubine. She escaped, only to learn that the tyrant had killed her lover. Finding his body deep in the mountains she wept and wept until she became the rain, while her lover's body turned into a tea bush. Which is why, according to the legend, the area where Mao Feng tea grows is forever cloudy and humid the whole year round. All together now…ahhh! This tea is special, unlike any other green tea on the market. A green tea liked by people who don’t like green tea.

Louise the tea taster says

how does it taste?

This tea has a delicate natural taste of fresh summer air, peaches and apricots. A lovely clear pale green infusion, not the murky brown you often see with standard green teas.

good if you're feeling

In need of a make-over. Can’t afford rehab, liposuction or Botox? Why not settle for a nice cuppa? You may have heard about the many reputed benefits of drinking green tea, ranging from weight loss to anti-ageing - more fun than cosmetic surgery!

How we like it

Best drunk as it is. No need to add anything.

Iced

Just cover one tea temple with 80 degree water and infuse for 3 minutes. Remove temple and top-up glass with iced water. Garnish with cucumber slices

Brew Time

  • tea temple - 1 per person. brew for 3 minutes, best with water at 80 degrees C. (If you don't have a fancy kettle or thermometer to hand, grabbing the kettle just before it boils will do the trick!)
  • loose tea - 2 rounded teaspoonfuls per person, infuse for 3+ minutes.

Whole leaves take longer to brew, but the little wait is definitely worth it.

yummy

“Having drunk some delicious green teas in Bali I have been really disappointed with the ones we have back here UNTIL I found tea pigs! This tea is now my morning favourite and well worth the extra cost.”

the best greeen tea going

* * * * * by Daisy Pye • 24th March 2014

“I had alomst given up with green tea, as the brands and types I have chosen have been ... lest just Say Disgusting, smelling like rotting veg or pond water, (sound familiar) making me almost heve at the smell.. i thought it might be good for my body but not good for my mind or state of mood... HOWEVER, my friend introduced me to Tea Pigs green tea, saying she loves it - and me saying really???? WHY. So I tried a Tea Pigs greeen tea......Well it is just so lovely, light, refreshing, and only a very very faint aroma that is nowhere near as discribed above. I am hooked - a little expesive but worth it, in my opinion as you get what you pay for.
good quality.”

Lovely

“I had this in a high end cafe in Leed's Victoria Quarter and loved it. The secret to a cup of green tea is to have the water at 80c, not boiling. When my old kettle broke I bought one with different temperature options. Pricey, but worth it to get the perfect cup of green tea!”

Yum /Tea Tips

“Best green tea out there! Reading some of the reviews, a few have commented that this tea smells funny. I've found that if I use freshly boiled water (i.e. piping hot) then it can often give off that aroma (maybe it burns the leaves slightly?). Try putting a tiny bit of cold water in the cup first, as this has worked for me! Added bonus of not needing to wait 20 minutes for it to cool sufficiently before drinking!”

Great quality

Excellent drink

“Really delicious. Grassy, sappy flavour. Very vibrant. I find the bags are good for 3-4 cups of tea too, steep for a few seconds and whip off into a clean cup ready for another drink later!”

Fantastic

* * * * * by Tom Hawkins • 25th February 2016

“I'm not usually a drinker of green teas but this one is really fantastic. Lovely colour, delicious aroma and subtle taste. I suspect it is owed to the thousands of years of tradition that probably go into making the stuff in China but I probably wouldn't have been exposed to this without Tea Pigs, so thank you!”

Mao Feng - wonderful verdant gorgeousness

* * * * * by • 13th January 2007

“This stuff is flippin' lovely. I thought it would be just like all the other green teas I've tried, but it really is different - subtle, not at all bitter, and great even without honey. Oh yes - I normally have to have ladlefuls of the sweet stuff in my green tea, but dolloping it into this would be like putting ketchup on foie gras. Please, please, never discontinue this - if you do, I will send you nasty e-mails for the rest of my natural life.”

Simply wonderful

* * * * * by Dominic Witherow • 16th September 2016

“Best made with loose leaves, fill a cold teapot with boiling water then let rest for a couple of minutes before putting in the leaves (I find a single teaspoon of leaves is perfect). Allow to brew for at least 5 minutes, then enjoy in small china cups. Best de-tox and all-round refresher. Match it with a shot of Matcha every day and you just feel great! It cleared up a long-running skin complaint too. I just can't rate this highly enough.”

Magic stuff!

“This stuff is great, this is a pick me up and a half! Try it mid morning, early afternoon, it is guaranteed to help you get your workload completed - magic!”

Best Green Tea Ever

“I am a green tea fanatic and have tried green tea all over the world and this is one of the best green teas that I have ever tasted, and it comes in a handy tea bag which generally a green tea of this high quality would usually only be sold loose..it tastes fresh and light and I always have a cup every morning it is simply delicious!”

Teapigs is the best!

* * * * * by • 19th February 2008

“Teapigs green tea is the best green tea I have ever had. Quite unlike other ones which are are bland, bitter and boring. Whenever I've bought green tea, its just stayed in the cupboard gathering dust. The Teapigs green/black tea is something else. It's subtle yet packed with flavour whilst not being overpowering.
I've taken my Teapigs tea to the office for tea tastings now, going to take it to my Dad's for a tea tasting experience....
Thank you Teapigs for doing something with tea which is akin to reinventing the wheel. It is absolutely delicious, the tea temples are extraordinary and I just love watching the tea leaves unfurl in the temple ...”

So smooth

* * * * * by Joanne Cooper • 31st August 2013

“Hate tea but love this. There is no after taste, its so smooth. I ran out of it yesterday and bought an alternative green tea and had to throw them away as the flavour was leaving a nasty bitter coating on my tongue. Can't do without my Mao Fen Green Tea and have stocked my cupboards so I don't run out.”

LIKE NECTAR

* * * * * by • 14th February 2008

“This green tea is fabulous [and I've tried many] as it's so smooth and not at all bitter. If you don't like Green Tea then this is the one to try because I guarantee you won't be disappointed. There is no aftertaste and neither does it stain your teeth [like many of the supermarket green teas] So you see, it's very good for your health and your teeth! What more could you possibly want from a Green Tea!

Mao Feng Green Tea

* * * * * by Mrs Dhun Burton • 22nd August 2012

“I really enjoyed Mao Feng Green Tea as given to me on my birthday as a gift. It has a clean and clear taste without being bitter (only bitter if you over brew it) but certainly no fruity overtones as you describe.
Best drunk in the morning after breakfast.”

You've converted me!

* * * * * by Roberta • 16th January 2013

“I got a sample free with a magazine and was a bit hesitant to try it as usually green tea makes me wretch but this is just so gorgeous. It is a soft, calm flavour if that makes sense and it has definitely converted me to a green tea drinker.
Will be ordering the 50 pack ASAP.”

The Best Tea of Any Kind I Have Ever Had

* * * * * by Jessica • 6th December 2012

“Absolutely gorgeous. In addition to tasting amazing while drinking it, it gives a long lasting clean taste in my mouth. I have found it leaves me wanting to eat less after having it simply because my mouth tastes lovely as it is. The taste itself is very clean with hints of peach. I tend to like this mid-morning as it gives me a fantastic caffeine kick that is useful in addition to pleasant in that I find easier to be creative and focused. Definitely to be drunk as it is, no sugar, no lemon. I usually brew it for 5-7 minutes.”

One of the lightest best green tea's in the UK

* * * * * by • 8th February 2009

“This stuff is superb, very light, delicate flavor with a good effect on the body and mind. Highly recommended as its hard to find good green tea in the UK!”

Amazing

* * * * * by Claire Vardon • 19th March 2013

“THE best green tea, bar none! You will never use the "other" brands again once you have tried this. It blows them all out of the water. I was never keen on plain green tea and always went for a flavoured variety, until I tried this. This doesn't need flavour of any kind, it has the purest, freshest taste and is totally different to the regular green teas that have "dust" in the tea bag. If you don't like green tea normally I promise you'll think again once you give this one a whirl.”

10/10

“You've tried the rest - this is the ONE! Best tea bags ever, had these in Giraffe and Haven't looked back since absolutely amazing! unlike other green tea bags these don't leave your mouth dry or without that weird headache after.
Worth every penny at 23p a cup BARGAIN!”

“I have only ever tried green tea once and did'nt really enjoy it all but this tea is really light and refreshing. You can really taste the peaches, I haven't added anything to it and don't think I will bother, tastes great with just hot water. Will be ordering again.”

* * * * * by Tori Eastwood • 12th August 2016

“If this marvellous Yellow Mountain Fur Peak tea is only at number 3 on the China Famous Tea list, after West Lake Dragon Well and Donting Green Snail Spring, then all I can say is that they must be sublime . . . because this is a wonderful tea. Simply the best I have ever tasted, with a lovely colour, delicate aroma and layers of amazing flavours. I've been drinking tea a long, long time and do not exaggerate.”

Mao Feng feedback

* * * * * by • 15th April 2011

“I recently purchased Mao Feng Green tea, and it was superb.

Unlike other green tea products on the market (that I've tried), which have a shriveled and tasteless quality, the leaves here were full on, and the flavour really came out! This makes a real compliment to matcha when on a budget.”

“ive never been a green tea fanatic, but thought id give the mao feng a try. every green tea id previously tried seems to have a bitterness to it, not this...as it says on the tin, peaches and apricot, and so refreshing, i may be developing a habit. a beautiful tea.”

Nice tea to Take to work

* * * * * by • 12th September 2009

“Finding Teapigs was a bit of a revalation for me, it really opened my eyes to the world of tea. At home I have gone a bit OTT with my selection of Pu Erhs and oolong but I don't really want to take them to work since they are quite costly even compared to T-pigs. My salvation is in tea like this. I can easy swallow the asking price, in fact, I see it as quite a bargain!

This tea is indeed surprisingly fresh with apricots with the first infusion with a nice oolong like aftertaste. It's an interesting and pleasent tea that will give you an experience of what better green teas can be that won't cost you the earth.

It's been nice to revisit T-pigs and also rediscover a good tea that I can brew at work for my ever developing taste in tea.”

Mao Feng Green Tea

Super Duper Tea

* * * * * by • 6th May 2010

“This has to be the best green tea I have ever had. Both myself and my partner agree that its one of the best purchases we have ever made. The tea is so clean and tastes wonderful. Some green teas I find make you mouth feel a little dry, but the teapigs one is refreshing all the way. Am very very happy with this tea and have also convinced my mum to try some. A friend of mine recommend this site to me and I would just like to add that the name teapigs is brilliant!”

mao feng green tea

* * * * * by • 14th June 2010

“Confession: I eat a helluva lot of Chinese food. Consequently, i've consumed a fair bit of green tea in my time. And this is among the nicest - I love the light, clean taste, and clear green colour. Agree it's much more drinkable than standard supermarket green tea; we have one at work with a tinny taste and an appearance roughly akin to pond water. Right, that's it from me - I'm off to put the kettle on again and phone for a takeaway...”

Wow

* * * * * by • 19th March 2011

“I wasn't sure I'd like this, but as it was part of my teapiglets pack, I was resolved to try it. I love green tea, and this is no exception. Mao Feng is light and refreshing, and not as sweet as Jasmin, great for those moments where you just want to take a second for yourself. The list of teas I want to buy in bigger balk is getting, well, bigger.”

“This tea is lovley. Very light, sweet and refreshing it tastes nothing like any green tea i have ever tasted before. It has a beautiful light green colour, not like the pale brown of other cheaper green teas.

This beauty is also packed with loads of health benifits and I will deffinatly purchase more as a treat to perk me up when I am feeling down.

I would recomend this tea to anyone, especially people who do not like green tea as your perception of it will change forever!”

Great taste but flimsy tea bag!

* * * * - by Tina • 6th March 2014

“I absolutely love this greentea! Its very light and refreshing. On the downside, a minimum 2 teabags out of every pack tear for me, so I have to be super careful taking the dipping label off the actual teabag as it is glued for some reason. My work colleagues have found this also! It is too expensive to be loosing perfectly good cups of greentea to shoddy material.”

A tea that is not for MeV:-(

* * * - - by Sam Eggleton • 25th January 2012

“I received this as a taster packet. It brews really nicely. I must admit I use the bags a couple of times because the quality of the tea can sustain this. There is a peach and apricot flavour however it doesn't agree with my taste buds Sorry teapigs..it was a little sickly for me,peach has never been a favourite of mine but I thought I would give it a go.i don't want to put anyone off it's flavour is gentle,fresh and has no harshness it's just not my cup of tea! I think the stronger less flowery tastes must agree with me more.”
