“oh my lordy lord, i was just out in my garden and feeling really rather tired (being an avid weeder has this affect) when i thought i'd make a nice cup of tea. I was looking forward to trying yerba mate as there had been a number of conflictig and mixed reviews amongst many of my tea drinking friends . I was pleasently suprised and found the smoky flavour very exotic and rustic. I also got a big burst of energy and commenced to being Mrs Greenfinger with new zeal and mammoth relish. “After been a traditional tea drinker for 40 something years I thought I'd give something else in the tea world a try. After tasting a considerable amount that tasted like chewing gum, perfume, aftershave and other things I don't care to mention. I tried yerba mate expecting the same results a couple of sips and down the plug hole...... BUT.......was pleasantly surprised its like a glass of red wine the first couple of sips are a bit harsh then it kind of grows on you. So to people like myself who facy a change from the normal cuppa I can highly reccomend the odd cup of yerba mate thrown in its a nice change.” |

“Although I've only tried two varieties so far - i.e. Yerba Mate and Summer Flowers (which is also lovely). I love this tea! The two in contrast could be compared to Dark angel and Good Angel. And although it's sometimes nice to be good, if u can't be good - then be good at it!! ;0) Thankfully I never was a loyal cigarette smoker to compare this mysterious, distinctive tea to tobacco - however, I would say that this tea is Smokin!!! ;0) I definitely feel it draws me out of a mundane, 'get me outta of here' slump anytime of the day and my brain does feel stimulated and alive - well at least until my next menial task that is!! “I'm new to Teapigs and I had read the information on all the teas and decided to order a few samples tins. Out of the teas I ordered, this tea was the one I was most apprehensive about trying but was curious to try because of the "love it or hate it" remark. When I opened the tin and sniffed the tea, it didn't appeal to me but I went ahead and tried it. To my surprise it was pleasant, slightly bitter but not a nasty taste. I added a piece of fresh ginger to the cup which improved the smell and also made a slight difference to the taste. Once I had drunk it, a few minutes later I found myself wanting another cup. I'm not sure if I felt any more alert and awake but I shall certainly be buying more of this tea and making sure I have my fresh ginger to go with it. I am pleased I took the plunge and gave it a try.” |

“Three weeks ago I was actually tasting mate tea at Santo Pipo mate plantation at Bella Vista in Paraguay (sorry - name dropping, but true). Sadly, somewhere on the journey home I managed to lose my huge box of mate tea. So, I wasn't sure about these tea bags but they are the real thing alright. Its certainly not as energising as the coca tea I had in Peru, but unfortunately that's not available in the UK. However, I think it does give me a bit of go in the mornings and it tastes fine too. |

“Yerba Mate didnt taste as bad as I thought it would. It is the ashtray smell as you are drinking it that is the worse bit. Have been drinking it a for 2 or 3 weeks now and adding a slice of lemon to the pot whilst it is stewing makes all the difference giving it a bit of a zesty taste but most of all taking the pubs ashtray smell away. |

“I got this tea on the suggestion that it could be the next Lapsang Souchong. Yerba Mate doesn't come close to Lapsang Souchong's smoky yumminess and I'm a little confused by other reviews lusting over its great smoky flavour. Maybe I've been spoilt by Lapsang Souchong. Yerba Mate is an okay tea - more in the area of a green tea. I enjoyed a cup in the morning with my breakfast. |

I used to have a cup of Yerba Mate in the morning , and sometimes one mid day. I've just been to the doctor and my blood presssure has gone through the roof. I always had high blood pressure , but it has significantly increased since my new regime . This is by no means a complaint , I've swapped over to lemon and ginger first thing now, so just be aware that it does contain natural caffine !” |
