2020 has been a challenging year all round, so we wanted to take this opportunity to say a HUGE thank you for your ongoing donations and all round support. But there's still work to be done!

Thanks to your donations, during the Rwandan lockdowns we were able to continue to pay the salaries of our teachers even though they were unable to work. This in turn meant that they were able to support other members of the community as they had the security of a salary.

Now, similarly to the UK, Rwanda is easing out of lockdown slowly. All primary aged children are back at school now and it’s so great to see our sponsored children back – most of them haven’t been to school since March 2020!

Some changes have had to be made at the schools to keep everyone safe, and so with the additional costs of sanitisation equipment and extra water for washing hands, lots of the money we regularly donate for books and school equipment has been redirected to keep everyone safe.

Alongside this, during lockdown the Rwandan government has changed the curriculum for lower primary students, which means that the current text books the schools hold are now unfortunately unusable.

So, Headmaster Justin of the House of Children (a school based in Gisenyi, near where the majority of our everyday brew is sourced) has asked if there is a possibility to donate towards getting some new textbooks to ensure the school children don’t fall further behind.

Not one to say no to a challenge, we wanted to take World Book Day on March 4th as an opportunity to launch a book fundraiser for the children!

Our goal is to donate 5,000 textbooks to the school and help get everybody back on track as quick as possible - and at £5 per book, we need your help!  We'll match every donation made online, and throughout March there are some cheeky perks available too as our way of saying thank you.

For every donation made you'll receive:

  • £5 (1 book) –  a special discount code for your next order
  • £25 (5 books) – as above, plus a shout out on our blog & social
  • £50 (10 books) – as above,  plus a chance to try our super secret new product, coming out soon! (20 available)
  • £150 (30 books) – as above, plus a private tea school hosted by teapig Andy for you and 5 friends! (5 available)

Remember, every £5 donation = 1 book, so every little helps!
