If you ever think that the English don’t really have much of a cultural ‘way’ about things, but think that our European counterparts do, then I highly recommend a visit to the Tony Ray-Jones photography exhibition running at the Science Museum - on for just 2 more weeks! The photos aim to encapsulate everything there is about being English – our quirks and eccentricities, and the photos are from a feature that ran regularly in The Times between 1966-68.

So, in essence, what exactly did I learn about what it is to be English? Turns out, one thing that we seem to love is tea! Lots of great pictures of people enjoying their cuppa whatever the weather and wherever they are.  The seaside frequently came up too; we love to spend time by a beach, come rain or shine.  But the beauty in a lot of the photos was simply the groups of people, in an array of places enjoying their free time and taking their interests quite seriously – whether that’s sitting down in a café, attending a church service or entering a beauty competition! Check it out :)
