We always like to keep an eye out for sustainable brands, and we recently discovered TOTM - an organic and cruelty free period care brand that exists to drive positive change by challenging negative attitudes towards menstruation. They have a collection of GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton tampons, pads and liners, along with a reusable menstrual cup which are all designed to be kind to your body and the planet - a win win situation, if you ask us!

We had a chat with Fee, TOTM’s Head of Marketing, to find out a bit more about this fab company, their sustainability and hopes for the future.

tell us a bit about your role at TOTM

I’ve been with the company for just over 2 years. We’re still a small team but we’re growing. Back in 2017, when I joined, there were only 4 of us based in the office! I joined TOTM as I was keen to work for a company that has a positive impact on the world. I found it so shocking that mainstream period products had these questionable ingredients and such high levels of plastic. I was instantly on board with TOTM’s sustainable approach to period care. We’ve been working hard over the last 2 years and it’s amazing to see that a small company based in Cardiff is challenging the negative period stigma and making eco-conscious period care more mainstream.

what's an average day like?

Exciting! As a small team, we have to be really hands-on and get involved in lots of different areas of the business. The brand is growing quickly, so I find being really organised is key. My role is varied manage the brand across multiple platforms and have key involvement in organising brand partnerships, content and photoshoots (alongside my colleague, Alex). I love to also keep in touch with our customers and regularly get involved with the active conversations we spark on our socials.

can you tell us a bit about the company’s ethics/values and sustainability stance?

TOTM stands out for being an ethical and sustainable period care brand, this is reflected in our period care range and how we work as a company. We’re certified organic, certified cruelty-free and our products are registered with The Vegan Society. We use non-GM organic cotton in our tampons, pads and liners and eco-alternatives such as biofilm wrappers and cardboard tampon applicators. We’re always looking to develop and improve the range to give our customers a choice of sustainable period care options, including disposable and reusables.

what has been your favourite memory working at TOTM so far?

My favourite memory was probably working on our period pioneer photoshoot last year. The TOTM brand is fronted by customers and changemakers from our community. For this photoshoot, we brought together some inspiring women who work so hard to raise awareness of a range of issues, from period poverty to menstrual stigma. The shoot took a lot of creative planning but there was such an amazing atmosphere on the day, and we had a really positive response to the campaign.

what would TOTM like to achieve in the next 5 years?

We want TOTM to become the go-brand for organic and sustainable period care. We’re now in stores, online, in workplaces (through our corporate scheme) and we have more exciting opportunities coming soon. But we’re excited to take the conversation further and go global with our #periodpowerful message!
