Louise the tea taster says

We’re not going to lie to you - no one, it seems, is indifferent to this tea. You’ll either love it or hate it. Yerba Mate (pronounced yerba mah-tey) is native to South America, where it is drunk as a natural stimulant to increase focus and alertness whilst helping with detoxing and weight loss. And it does all this, allegedly, without any side effects. So one for our celebrity customers, then.

How does it taste?

A bit like a smoky green tea. Could this be the new Lapsang Souchong?

Good if you're feeling

open-minded and willing to take a risk. This is an Amazonian secret energy brew - it may smell like creosote, but it works like magic.

  • Tea temple - 1 per person. Infuse in boiling water. Brew for 3+ minutes.
  • Loose tea - 1 rounded teaspoonful per person. Brew for 3+ minutes.

Whole leaves take longer to brew, but the little wait is definitely worth it.

How we like it

Smoky - this unique flavour works well with a sprinkle of ginger or cinnamon.

fantastic!

I've had yerba mate before but I never thought it would become one of my favourites. Now I can't think of a better drink for a cold winter afternoon or evening! Add a teaspoon of delicious homemade honey and enjoy :) I also find it extremely affordable, so I will definitely be ordering some more very soon.

Overall okay.

I got this tea on the suggestion that it could be the next Lapsang Souchong. Yerba Mate doesn't come close to Lapsang Souchong's smoky yumminess and I'm a little confused by other reviews lusting over its great smoky flavour. Maybe I've been spoilt by Lapsang Souchong. Yerba Mate is an okay tea - more in the area of a green tea. I enjoyed a cup in the morning with my breakfast.

Worth trying but I doubt it will become a regular thing for me.

TL;DR version:
Please add a Lapsang Souchong tea to your collection :D

A very pleasant surprise

The best review i can give this tea is to say that it arrived in a 'cheeky' pack a week ago and i was initially hesitant in trying it, yet i'm having to re order already !.

A really great discovery which has become my first drink of the day (and the second).

Pack it BIGGER

I just want to add to the call for a bigger packet. surely you can see this tea is loved by your customers! So please make this scrummy (common cold fighting tea) in BIGGER numbers. Come on you know it makes sense........

love it!

I'm normally a coffee drinker and find many teas a bit 'sweet', but this one is a wonderfully strong tea taste with the slighly smokey edge. I echo Carol - please can we have big boxes?
