Description

Popcorn Tea Japan Sourced from:
Japan

Louise the tea taster says

Back in the day when tea was too expensive for your average Japanese peasant, they’d mix it with toasted rice to make it go further. From such humble beginnings has grown a tea that, in today’s Japan, is celebrated in its own right as Genmaicha tea – or, to its friends, Popcorn tea. The British equivalent would probably be something like bubble and squeak, although obviously not recommended for use in teapots.

How does it taste?

Green tea with a popcorny, almost nutty undertone. “Sugar Puffs in a cup” – truly unique.

Good if you're feeling

in need of a treat. As indulgent as a trip to the movies, but without the violence and naughty language, this sweet green tea will lift your spirits.

  • 1 tea temple per person. Brew for 3 mins, best with water at 80 degrees C. (If you don't have a fancy kettle or thermometer to hand, grabbing the kettle just before it boils will do the trick!)

Whole leaves take longer to brew, but the little wait is definitely worth it

How we like it

Straight - this interesting flavour is great on its own.

Green tea convert!

I must admit that I bought this out of sheer curiosity as to what it could possibly be like ... I don't normally enjoy green tea at all! This, however, has changed my mind. It's flavoursome enough that it makes a tasty treat, while still being light and fresh even if brewed strong; very satisfying, and quite energising. I've been drinking this strong as an evening pick-me-up while doing uni work, and it's doing the job well!

Genmaicha ftw!

Been a huge fan of popcorn tea for ages but the teapigs one has fast become one of my favourite brands. Would love to have a 50 pack available please :)

My Favourite

Ive always had a 'thing' for pop corn, and i am an avid tea drinker, whether it be bog standard tea or green tea or fruit tea. My dad bought me this one year for Christmas mainly as a joke due to my love for both popcorn and tea; and well, the joke is on him as i cant get enough of this stuff! Would definitely recommend this tea for those of you trying to cut out popcorn but still want that kick!

OK... But not my fave

This one I thought was OK, there is a definite popcorn/nuttiness to it, but I didnt feel much refreshment in it. Did not dislike it, but there are other teapigs above this one on my fave list.

Not as imagined

Tasted not at all like i had imagined with a name like "Popcorn" but i must say it was enjoyable and doesn't have that bitterness that the usual Green tea has. I will be trying it again soon
