popcorn teafab Japanese treat
About this tea:
Back in the day when tea was too expensive for your average Japanese peasant, they’d mix it with toasted rice to make it go further. From such humble beginnings has grown a tea that in today’s Japan is celebrated in its own right as Genmaicha tea – or, to its friends, Popcorn tea. The British equivalent would probably be something like bubble and squeak, although obviously not recommended for use in teapots.
Compare the large leaf in our tea temples to the dust in your regular tea bag; whole leaf is best.
Taste:
Green tea with a popcorny, almost nutty undertone. Louise describes this as “Sugar Puffs in a cup” – truly unique
Try it:
Pure and unadorned, unless you have a really sweet tooth.
Good if you’re feeling:
In need of a treat. As indulgent as a cinema ticket, but without the violence and naughty language, this sweet green tea will lift your spirits.
To buy our fab Japanese popcorn tea online, select the quantity of loose leaf tea, temple teas or sample tins you would like and then add to basket.
