Stressed ? Drink tea

An article in the Times today confirms what we have always known... tea reduces stress.
It is natural to reach for a cup of tea when you need to relax.
The important part of the study is in bold below....key message - drink more tea it is good for you.

Professor Andrew Steptoe, one of the leaders of the study, explains: “Tea contains a supernutrient called theanine which can block the action of excitatory nerve transmitters, lowering our overall stress responses. But it also contains a host of other bioactive compounds, many of which could be working together to be responsible for this effect. One of these could be epigallocatechin gallate, which is known to be a mild sedative. While scientists tease out the fine detail, the result is clear sipping four cups of tea a day acts as a stress-reducing buffer.

According to Dr Carrie Ruxton, author of a new report in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, there is now evidence to suggest that three cups a day reduces the risk of coronary heart disease thanks to its antioxidants. These are known as flavonoids and, although they are also found in onions and apples, tea is estimated to provide 82 per cent of our intake

These, as Ruxton explains, can help to protect our hearts: “First, they seem to improve the function of the lining of blood vessel walls, making them relax slightly so that blood pressure is reduced. They also change the composition of the vessel walls, making it more difficult for cholesterol to attach and form fatty plaques that block blood flow. Finally, flavonoids can reduce bad LDL cholesterol by more than 11 per cent.

GOOD%20FOOD%20SHOW.jpg

Above: Our tea temples visit Olypmia.

The teapigs stand, after 3 long days, turned into a boxing ring with our last pack of yerba mate as the prize trophy.
The show was a huge success with lots of people discovering our teas, thanks to Emma, Emily and Nem for their help. Thanks to all of you who visited, listened to our tea rantings and even bought some tea temples.

We have had some great comments from fellow tea addicts who discovered us at the show....

Tracy sums it up beautifully below

Finally, after so many teas I have found a range that I really enjoy.
I first discovered your range at the Good Food Show 2006 at London's
Olympia and was given a sample of the Chai Tea to try. I must admit I
was sceptical, as, without exception, all of the herbal/fruit teas
that I have tried in the past have smelt lovely and tasted far from
lovely. I made it in the traditional british way with milk and a
little sugar, it was divine. I have now ordered lots more teas to try from you.

Thank you, thank you, at last my search is over, Teapigs are what I
have been waiting for.

Morning Glory wins the race...

Sailing and tea.... where is the connection. The 'Middle Sea Race' has just been won by a German boat (or should I say yacht??) which shares the name with our winning signature blend - Morning Glory

I was out in Malta supporting the 'global yacht racing' team and the sail for cancer charity, who raise money for cancer treatment and also offer the chance for cancer sufferers to sail the high seas.

Next year we will supply global yacht racing with some Morning Glory tea. Surely a brew of Morning Glory will help them secure a podium positon.

Fireworks and Tea Bracer

As you prepare your 'ooohh' and 'ahhhhs' for this weekends firework extravaganza, spare a moment to make a tea bracer.

What you need...

8 cups of freshley brewed black tea ( morning glory if you please)
2 cups of sugar
1 (750ml) bottle of brandy
1 (750ml) bottle of rum
1 cup of lemon juice
Pop the brewed tea and sugar onto the hob (medium heat) and bring to the boil, stir until the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a bowl and stir in brandy rum and lemon Juice.

Decant into a funky flask and go enjoy the rockets and catherine wheels.
The flask will keep your brew warm for up to 12 hours. Share this potent brew with your friends ( serves about 20).
